Hearing Jesus Voice
John 10:27 ESV
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
I watched a documentary one time of a guy trying to steal someone else’s sheep. It was almost comical because the sheep wouldn’t even raise their heads and look at the man. I watched a video of several people saying and doing the same things that the true shepherd would say and do, and the same results; the sheep did not respond. The sheep never paid attention to any of them. The true shepherd of these sheep stepped forward and began to call the sheep as the other people did. The sheep did respond and began to run to the true shepherd.
This verse says three things:
“My sheep hear My (Jesus’s) voice.” That means His sheep recognize Him and not a stranger or a strange doctrine, but only what He teaches.
“And I (Jesus) know them,” which indicates a personal, deep relationship with Jesus and ourselves. We are acquainted with Jesus; we have dug in deep, and we hear Him and follow after Him.
“And they follow Me (Jesus).” We follow Jesus because we know that only He holds the truth and the fullness of God. We will not listen to the enemy or a stranger who teaches us a foreign teaching or who wants to lead us astray.
Prayer:
Lord, only You have the words of eternal life. Only You have redeemed us. Only You have bought us with a price, and we have come into close fellowship with You. We will not listen to the voice of a stranger, and we will not listen to foreign teachings that are not found in your Word. In Your name, Gracious Shepherd, we pray, Amen!
