Salvation-Sanctification

Philippians 2:12b-13 NIV

“…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”

To work out our salvation in fear and trembling can be seen in two forms. First, the Greek verb rendered “work out” means “to continually work to bring something to completion or fruition or maturity.” We do this by actively pursuing obedience in the process of sanctification. The “trembling” is the attitude Christians are to have in pursuing this goal—a healthy fear of offending God through disobedience and a deep respect for His majesty and holiness. We are not working to be saved, we are saved by the blood of Jesus and His sacrifice, we are allowing God to sanctify us to maturity which is a lifelong process. As Paul said, this is “God who works in you (us) to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose (in us).”

Prayer:

Lord, mold me and make me into who you want me to be. Give me maturity, wisdom, knowledge and understanding of You and Your ways today. In Your mighty name Lord Jesus, Amen!
