Friendships
Romans 12:10 AMP
“Be devoted to one another with [authentic] brotherly affection [as members of one family], give preference to one another in honor…”
Psychologists say that as we get older loneliness can be an issue. It’s not that we are alone always, but relationships seem to fall away because one side stopped nurturing the relationship. One-sided relationships are never easy. Relationships where the two reciprocate and keep in touch with each other are healthy and they refresh our bond. Strong reciprocating relationships strengthen one another and revitalize one another.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man (or woman) sharpens another.”
Ecclesiastical 4:9-10 says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his (or her) fellow. But woe to him (or her) who is alone when he (or she) falls and has not another to lift him (or her) up!”
Maintain relationships, even if we feel like they are one sided at times. Do the right thing. Jesus suffered and died that we can have a forever relationship with God. Take a little time to build, strengthen, encourage someone if it is a healthy relationship.
Prayer:
Lord, we need You to strengthen us to do the right thing in relationships. I’ve watched people isolate themselves because it is too hard sometimes to work at staying in touch. Lord, if I have failed someone in this regard, forgive me, and bring those people to my mind so I can rebuild the relationship. In Your name Lord Jesus, amen!
