Believing
John 11:14
“Then Jesus told them (His disciples) plainly, “Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
Jesus purposefully did not go to Lazarus while He was sick, because if He would have been there at his home, He would have healed Lazarus. That is who Jesus is, a Healer. Instead, Jesus waited until Lazarus died, in order to publicly display the Glory of God so that His disciples would once and for all times believe that He really was who He said He was, the Son of God. As the Son of God He has the power over life and death. These men followed Him for three and a half years and still some did not believe. Judas was among them at this time; this miracle would seal in him either to believe or reject. For the others, it firmly established their belief in Him. Lazarus’s resurrection was a precursor to His own resurrection, but in this resurrection, Jesus would show, and make it abundantly clear, that He was the Son of God, without a doubt.
Imagine being there the day that Jesus performed this great miracle. It would astonish us, I believe the hair on the back of our neck would rise, but most of all, I pray that we would have all believed. Many believed, many did not believe.
Prayer:
Lord, I want to be in the believing camp. I know that You are the Son of God, the Messiah because of all that I have read from personal accounts in Your word. I know that only You have the words of eternal life. I know only You and the Father and the Holy Spirit have the power over death and life. Lord, I believe. In Your name Lord Jesus, I give You glory, Amen!
