Asking, Believing
James 1:5-8
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
Wisdom is free for the asking. If this world lacks anything, it’s wisdom. James is telling the people who have been dispersed for their faith in Jesus Christ that they need to ask for wisdom. Wisdom for what? In their situation, they needed wisdom about where to go, what to do, and who to trust. Their faith was secure, but James felt like they needed to progress in all the places that they went. Why? No matter where we are, no matter what our surroundings or the people that are close by, we are told to share our faith. They needed to know who was approachable, who would turn them into the authorities, and whom they could trust. They needed wisdom on how to share their faith, how to keep growing even if they were separated from loved ones.
For us, it is much the same, except we live in a free country, almost void of tyranny. We need wisdom for life, for family, for careers, for financial security, and for how to live modestly but comfortably. We need wisdom on how to share our faith, how to live openly for Jesus, and how to conduct business as Christians. We need to know how to live out our faith that would honor Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord, I need You every day for my entire life and family. I need wisdom to share the Gospel more effectively. I need wisdom on how to care for my family, friends, and loved ones. I need wisdom on how to be a better citizen and how to live in the confines of this country that will bring glory and honor to You. I need wisdom on how to live out my life for You, Lord. In Your Holy name, Lord Jesus, Amen!
