Smooth Path
Isaiah 40:3-5 ESV
“A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Isaiah is writing this word of encouragement for the children of Israel. God is calling for a smooth pathway from exile back to their homeland where they can once again see the glory of God in their lives.
For us today, this is a call to smooth out the pathway so we can get back to God to see His glory and to receive His blessings. More specifically, I use this as a cry for America to come back to God. That America as a whole would see that we have stopped following God.
The valleys represent low places of discouragement, despair, doubt, and apathy. The mountains represent human pride, arrogance, and self-reliance that must be brought low. The rough places represent deceitfulness, dishonesty, and unconfessed sin that has to be removed to find our way back to God and all that He has for America.
Prayer:
Lord, I believe You are calling for the valleys to be raised up and You are calling for the mountains and the arrogance of America to be brought low. Smooth out a path, forgive every sin, forgive our arrogance so that we as a nation can find our way back to You so we can be blessed, prosperous, and a great nation. In Your name, Lord Jesus, I ask, Amen!
