Communion
1 Corinthians 11:24-25 ESV
“…and when He (Jesus) had given thanks, He broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
1. In taking Communion, we are to remember what Jesus did for us, and the act of communion is a public display of obedience to Jesus’s command.
2. Communion serves as a visible testimony, declaring the Lord’s death until He returns.
3. It signifies the new covenant established in Jesus’ blood, offering forgiveness of sins and grace.
4. It is a time for self-examination to ensure one is in right standing with God.
5. It acts as a foretaste of the future heavenly banquet, looking forward to the Second Coming.
Communion is a sacred act of obedience, commanded by Jesus Christ. In Communion we celebrate His atonement that His body was broken for us and that His blood was shed for us to bring us back into a right relationship with God.
Prayer:
Lord, You paid the ultimate sacrifice for us at Calvary. Your body was broken for us, and Your blood was shed for us as an atonement for our sins reconciling us back to God. As we take part in communion, help us to remember what You have done for us and that we should testify that we have receive Your atonement for our sins. In Your precious and Holy name Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
