Ability to Make Peace
Matthew 5:9 ESV
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Peacemakers possess the ability to calm a tense situation, not pour gas on it and watch it burn. Peacemakers possess the ability to navigate conflict, offer understanding, and promote reconciliation. A peacemaker has strong communication skills, amazing empathy, stellar patience, and a commitment to fairness. As peacemakers, we will be called one of God’s children, known by His love and nature in us.
Paul said in Ephesians 2:14a, “For He (Jesus) Himself is our peace…” Jesus embodies peace. Even when He was rebuking the religious leaders, He was fighting for the justice of the Jewish people, not trying to make enemies. When Jesus is near, peace is near. He offered healing, comfort, and forgiveness, and restored broken relationships.
Prayer:
Lord, in a world where everyone wants to be right, even when they are wrong, in a world where the people are motivated by their emotions, it’s generally hard to be a peace maker, but we need more of them. Sometimes the lines get blurred between what is of the world and what is of God, we want to be known as God’s children. Make us peacemakers for the kingdom. In Your name Lord we ask, Amen!
