Persecution for Righteous Living
Matthew 5:10 ESV
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
This verse refers to facing opposition, hardship, or mistreatment not because of personal wrongdoing, but because one is living according to God’s standards of righteousness. Not living to show people that we are righteous, that would be sanctimonious. This is about righteous living before God and the world can see it and hate us for the life that we chose.
Persecution can be seen as a sign that we are living faithfully and aligning with God’s will, even when facing opposition. Jesus shows the blessing of this type of persecution. Jesus declares that it is a sign of belonging to God’s kingdom. This verse offers encouragement and hope to believers who face persecution, assuring them that their suffering is not in vain and that they will inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, and eternal life.
Prayer:
Lord, as we live for You, we know that there are those who hate us for the life that we live for You and adhering to Your words. Keep our eyes on You Lord during these troubled times, not on the world. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
