Great Is Our Reward

Matthew 5:11-12 ESV

“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

This promise of blessings was personal to the Apostles, they suffered great harm for the sake of Jesus Christ and the Gospel after Jesus’s death and resurrection but they were thrilled to do so. Jesus suffered greatly for His witness and testimony of the things of God. Jesus points to what the Jewish people had done to the prophets in the past, the legacy of abuse was for thousands of years.

For this persecution and abuse, Jesus tells those listening that day, that there will be blessings now and blessings to come in the Kingdom of Heaven. In fact He said that their reward would be great.

We may not see all the rewards for the words of our testimony, but we know that when we stand before Jesus, He will personally reward us for our testimony of Him. Revelations 11:12 says, “And they overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death,” (They said and did what they had to say and do to further the Kingdom of God and proclaim their testimony of our Lord and Savior).

Prayer:

Lord, our testimony is for Your glory and only for Your glory, not ours. Our life is not our own, our life is to be lived to praise You and bring You glory and honor. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
