Psalms 37:16 ESV

“Better is the little that the righteous has than the abundance of many wicked.”

We may feel like we do not have much, but I have seen poverty at its core in Guatemala and Honduras. In their regard we are rich. We compare what we have to other people and it seems like we don’t have much but we are blessed beyond measure. It is better to have what we feel is meager and to be happy, satisfied, and fulfilled, than to be as those who may have much in earthly possession, but do not believe in our Savior. What they have now cannot be taken with them and those things do not bring true satisfaction. I remember reading of an interview with J.D. Rockefeller. They asked him when he was going to be satisfied with his wealth, and he said that he needed a little bit more. Wanting is the sign of the wicked. David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,” (or I shall not be in want). To be content and satisfied is a greater emotion than always being in want for more. That is a longing that never sees satisfaction.

Prayer:

Lord, I pray this morning that we are like King David, and say as long as You are our Shepherd we will never be in lack or living wanting more. In You Lord, You are our sufficiency and if there is any need, You will provide that need according to Your riches in glory. Amen!
