In Jesus Name

John 14:13 ESV

“Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

Understand, this is not a blank check or a carte blanche, this authority was given to the disciples by Jesus to carry out the work of the Gospel. Understand, Jesus is teaching the disciples to carry on the work of the Father. There will be times that we will ask for things to be done in Jesus name, but the thought has to be, “Lord, not my will but Your will be done.”

I often ask for a lot of healing, deliverance, protection for a lot of people every day, and the Lord wants good things for us all, but there is an end goal, and that is to further the kingdom. So I often say at the end, “Lord, Your will be done in these people and in these situations, that Your name be lifted up and glorified.

Think of it as diplomatic authority that we are carrying out the Lord’s will with His authority. Using this authority to bring Him glory through all that we are doing and asking.

Prayer:

Lord, in Your name, use us the best way possible to carry out Your work and service of caring and helping one another, always bringing You glory through our words, actions and as we bear fruit for the kingdom. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
