A Gentle Whisper

Isaiah 30:21 ESV

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”

Israel had been very rebellious, and God allowed them to be taken into exile for their sins, but even in exile He did not forsake them. In fact, he blessed them although they were in another country under a pagan king. He rebuked Israel in the verses leading up to this verse and then God begins to show Israel His love and mercy. He said to Israel, that as they go along their own way and their own thoughts lead them astray, (turning to the right and to the left), that they will hear a word behind them (in their spirit) that this is the way, walk in it, or in other words deep inside they would hear the Spirit of God guiding them on the straight and narrow.

For us today, this is receiving guidance of the way that we should go through the Spirit of God in us as well as through scripture, prayer, or godly counsel. God will show us the RIGHT way to go.

Prayer: 

Lord, I’m reminded of the old hymn that says, “where He leads me, I will follow.” Lord, never let me be so driven by my own intellect that I cannot hear from You the way that I should be going, doing the things that I should be doing. Always help me to be open and receptive to You and Your gentle whisper in my Spirit. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
