Confession

1 John 1:7-9 ESV

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

I was reading some scriptures about people receiving the Gospel. After studying these scriptures, I thought what would be an appropriate prayer for someone coming to Jesus Christ for the first time. After reading the scriptures of what a person must do to be saved, a one-word description would be confession. Salvation these days as we see in church services on TV or the internet involves, in some cases, just raising your hand. I’m not apposed to that but there needs to be a follow up with a Christian that can lead this new convert in spiritual and biblical truth. Just for those who may not know how to lead someone to the Lord in prayer for the first time this is just a suggestion:

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that You lived to bring me the truth and died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior, Amen.

This is just a simple pattern you can elaborate as much as you want in your prayer, just make it simple for the convert to understand.

Then introduce them to the book of Saint John. John helps people fall in love with Jesus.

Prayer:

Lord, it is my responsibility as a Christian to be a witness and to offer the Gospel to whoever I can. If given the opportunity to lead them to Jesus, give me the words to say to lead them to You or back to You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
