Koinonia Love
John 15:12 ESV
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
This kind of love is not a casual love or a love of convenience. Jesus is speaking of a Koinonia type of love. in a Christian context, koinonia refers to a deep, intimate fellowship and shared life with other believers, characterized by mutual support, and a shared faith. Overwhelmingly it is a sense of belonging. It’s more than just casual friendship; it involves a commitment to one another, a willingness to share burdens and joys, and a sense of unity in purpose. This kind of love and fellowship is seen as a reflection of the unity between Christ and the Father, and it is a vital aspect of Christian community.
I think we all want this kind of love. If that is so, what kind of love do we portray? Since we want to receive this type of love from others, we have to be willing to give this kid and of love.
Prayer:
Lord, You loved us with a deep abiding love. You have asked us to love this way towards our fellow Christians. Knowing this, You knew that this kind of love would hold us Christians together in tight community. I feel like we have failed to do what You have asked, because that community spirit is broken in so many places. Help us Lord! In Your name we pray, Amen!
