Good Friday

Luke 23:33-34a ESV

“And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do…”

They call this good Friday because of what our Lord did for us. The events that follow were horrific, but still our Lord and Savior forgave His tormentors. Oh if we could be like Him!

The events of Holy Friday: Betrayal and Arrest: Jesus is betrayed by Judas and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Trial before Annas and Caiaphas:  Jesus is interrogated and convicted by Jewish authorities.

Trial before Pontius Pilate: Jesus is presented to Roman governor Pilate, who initially resists the conviction but ultimately agrees to His execution.

Mockery and Condemnation: Jesus is mocked and scourged, and then compelled to carry his cross to Golgotha.

Crucifixion:  Jesus is crucified between two thieves, at Golgotha, around 9:00 am.

Jesus Asks God to Forgive His tormentors:  And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do…”

Darkness and Death: Darkness falls over the land, and Jesus dies on the cross around 3:00 pm.

Burial:  Jesus’ body is taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb.

Prayer:

Lord, all that You went through, all the pain, the suffering, the cruelty and torture, the crucifixion but You still forgave them. How amazing is Your love for us and for sinners. To be like You Lord, all I ask is to be like You and forgive and love me like You do. We glorify Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
