Holy Thursday or Maudy  Thursday

Luke 22:14-16 ESV

“And when the hour came, He reclined at table, and the apostles with Him. And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

Maudy derived from Latin meaning “command” or “mandate,” referencing Jesus’  commandment to “love one another as I have loved you,” which he gave during the Last Supper.

The Last Supper:

In this day, Jesus shared a Passover meal with His disciples.

Jesus Endorses Communion:

During the time of sharing this meal, our Lord institutes the Lord’s Supper, instructing them to partake of bread and wine in remembrance of what He was about to do for the whole world.

Washing the Disciples’ Feet:

Jesus, as an act of humility and service, washed the feet of His disciples, setting an example for them to serve one another. (John 13:1-38)

On this evening, Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane with His disciples and prayed, experiencing great anguish as He submitted to God’s will.

Prayer:

Lord, we thank You for Communion where we remember what You have done for us. We thank You for teaching us servanthood, we are not here to serve ourselves but others in Your name. We thank you for the price that You paid for us, Amen!
