Palm Sunday

Zechariah 9:9 ESV

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

Symbolically, ”Daughter of Zion” is Jerusalem and then the Jewish people. They would have a visitation from the long-awaited Messiah, only Jesus was rejected by the majority of the Jews then and now today as well. Thank God for the millions of Jews who have believed. The Jews as a majority do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah. We know that Jesus is the Messiah and that He is deserving of our praise and honor. He alone holds the words of eternal life. Understand, in the tribulation period, millions of Jews will turn and believe that Jesus in fact is the Messiah.

For us, today is a day of rejoicing, even though we know the rest of the story, that this day will lead to violence and death later on this week, two thousand years ago. Still, we do rejoice for our Savior, our King, and our Redeemer. This day two thousand years ago was bittersweet for Jesus. He knew that the very people that were praising Him would turn and shout “crucify Him,” one week later.

So, we, His children and believers, take today to pay Him honor, we shout “Hosanna,” we glorify our King of Kings, and we will not turn against Him. Today, as you sing in your worship service, give Him glory with every fiber of your being.

Prayer:

Lord, today we are thankful that even though You knew what was happening in the open, and behind the scenes, You stayed the course, and You rode into Jerusalem as the Messiah, our King. We praise You with our hearts, our minds and our voices. We glorify You King Jesus, the Savior of the world. In Your righteous and majestic name Lord Jesus we praise You, Amen!
