My Refuge and Strength

Psalms 46:1-3 ESV
“God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present (tried and true) help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah (Pause and think about that)

A Tightrope Walker was asked how he was able to walk on such a small wire without falling. His answer was of course, good balance, good posture when I begin, the ability to shut everything out but myself and the wire, and I focus on my objective. My focus is the finish mark at the other end.

We may not be able to walk a tightrope, but in our quest, we can shut out the noise. Our noise may be different than that of the Psalmist: “the earth giving way, the mountains being moved, the waters roar, the mountains trembling,” but we do have our noises, health issues, pains, sorrows, family issues and troubles on every side, people telling us with words and actions that we are not good enough.

We can learn to focus. Focus on knowing that God is our refuge and strength, a helpmate in the times of trouble. He is our sufficiency, our source, our Deliverer and He has proven that again and again.

So, today, our tightrope lies before us. Before we step on the wire, we shut out all the noise and recognize who calms the noise, Jesus Christ. Then we focus on the day to win. We keep our eyes on the prize (Philippians 3:14) and our hope and strength in Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, if You are for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Who can separate us from your love? Can trouble or hardship or persecution, or going without the necessities of life, or health issues or family issues? (Romans 8:35) Not a chance, so, I will trust in You, my Refuge and Strength, my deliverer, Amen!
