Remembering What We Stood For
Psalms 40:1-3 ESV
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”
It’s not easy to find ourselves in the pit of despair or to find that we are just in a slump. Where it seems like life is passing us by or that it just doesn’t seem like we matter to anyone any more. Nothing could be further from the truth. God had a plan for us before we were born and He has a plan for us until the day we die, or beyond.
Here is what I mean; skip down to the bottom of this devotion scripture. Notice the last two sentences; “Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” The best we can hope for is that we leave a witness that we have overcome, not just survived, or that God barely got us over the finish line.
For me? I hope that my influence will last long after my death. Not for my glory but for His glory. That I influenced lives for Jesus. I have written enough stuff in the last ten to twenty years, and hopefully more in the years to come, that I hope somehow what I have written will continue to influence people even after I’m gone.
David said; “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” Influence is a powerful thing. What has our lives said? What will those who know us remember?
A new song in our heart? A song of praise to our God? I truly hope so, because just to know I was a hard worker is not enough, just to know I was a Pastor is not enough. To know I loved God and lived for Him, that would be my goal and that the lives that are left will find meaning in Him.
Prayer:
Lord, let my life be a light shining out through the night. May I help struggling ones to the fold. Spreading cheer everywhere to the sad and the lone. Let my life be a light to some soul.
