Overwhelming Praise
Psalms 116:17-19 ESV
“I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people, in the courts of the house of the Lord, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!”
The psalmist is overcome with gratitude to God. His praise, as he said, is a sacrifice of praise, it’s like a lavishing praise offering to God for His goodness and mercies. He said that he will call on the name of the Lord, which is a privilege and an honor to call on God’s name, because He is the only one that can count us worthy to just mention His name, the Almighty God. The psalmist says that he will pay his vows to the Lord in the presence of the people. Obviously, things that he told the Lord that he would do for God as a representative of God. The psalmist says that he will give this high praise in the courts of the house of the Lord, that is where all the people would gather at the sacred temple of God. Then in a moment when his heart is full, he cries out, “Praise the Lord!”
If you have never experienced overwhelming praise, get alone with God, play some good praise music, and some good worship music, and just meditate on God and His goodness.
Prayer:
Lord, You have done so much for me and my family and friends, You are worthy of being praised. More than that Lord, you deserve to be praised just because of who You are, our Savior, Redeemer, our Healer and our Shield. You go before us and are also the one who surrounds us. You are our light in a dark world, and You have first loved us, so we love You! In Your name, Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
