Happy Mother’s Day
Ephesians 6:2-3 NIV
“Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise, so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
My mother taught us six boys to honor God every morning before we went off to school or work. So, each morning we sat in the living room to read a scripture or two and pray together as a family. At night, we prayed before going to bed. We not only went to church on Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, but we also practiced Christianity at home. We learned morals, standards, and values in the home while eating dinner together or while sitting together in the living room.
This is an odd scene these days; families seem to be too busy to begin their day with scripture and prayer together as a family, or to sit around the evening table for dinner.
My mother was the driving force in our home; my dad was quiet, but my mom had no problem speaking her mind. So for me, the youngest of the six boys, she taught me a few valuable lessons: Honor God, read the Bible every day, study the Bible continuously, and begin every day with prayer. She taught me the power in the name of Jesus. His name spoken in sincerity carried power.
Today, I honor my mother for showing me the way to Jesus, and for teaching me His words.
Prayer:
Lord, many of us have seen our moms go on to be with you. What they taught us, I pray that those things would linger in our minds and in our hearts. I pray today for our mother’s legacies to live on and be a source of strength to us. Lord, bless all mothers today, strengthen them, encourage them, watch out over them, and bring them peace. In the Mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!
