The Olivet Discourse
Matthew 24:3-5
“As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet.”
The Olivet Discourse is a major prophetic sermon delivered by Jesus on the Mount of Olives, recorded in Matthew 24–25, Mark 13, and Luke 21. This discourse was given just days before Jesus’s crucifixion. It was given in direct response to the disciples’ questions regarding the destruction of the Temple and signs of the end of the age.
Understand, Jesus can see the devastation, and the destruction happening in His mind, so to tell His disciples every action firsthand was amazing. What else is amazing is that just days from His intense suffering He took the time to expound on these questions of the disciples. What does this mean to us almost two thousand years later? Jesus knows everything, pay close attention and He will teach us what we need to know.
Prayer:
Lord, You know all. Your love and affection for us is amazing. I find it amazing that You would take the time to explain so much to the disciple’s. It gives me hope that You will answer all my questions and give me wisdom for today. In Your name Lord Jesus I pray, Amen!
