An Ever-Present Help

Psalms 46:1-3 ESV

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth give way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

The Psalmist declares that God is our “refuge and strength.” That means He is a safe place to run to, and He is our inward power to endure whatever we are going through, in good times and the bad. God is also a “very present help in trouble,” which means that He is ALWAYS present with us. The Psalmist also says that because of God’s presence, “we will not fear.” Our confidence is not  because the trouble went away. Our confidence is because God’s presence gives us a sense of calm, assurance, peace, rest. We know someone is fighting our battles and shielding us in the process and we find rest in that. So even if disaster hits, when we run to Him, He shields us in the palm of His hand and we find peace.

Prayer:

Lord, we declare this morning that You are our refuge, our strength, our very present help in times of good and in times of trouble. Keep us in Your presence, shield us from, or walk with us through the storms of this life. With You by our side we can endure anything. Yours is the victory, Lord. In Your name Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
