Keeping God’s Word

Luke 11:28 ESV

“But he said, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!’”

On this particular day someone shouted out from the crowd to Jesus a blessing about His mother. Jesus’s response was, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” There was no disrespect for His mother of course, Jesus had high respect for His mother, but Jesus, as usual, weighed in on spiritual matters first. If we have read or listened to the words of God and said to ourselves, I’ve heard that before and we seem to gloss over those words as past knowledge, go back and look again.

When I was nineteen I moved away from home. One evening while doing my devotion, I had a revelation. The bible seemed to open up to John 11. I had heard this passage many, many times growing up and I sought to find another passage to meditate on, but something kept calling me back to John 11. I went back and read John 11 and I had the greatest revelation in that chapter that I have ever received, it changed my life and my perspective on things. God’s word does not change, but we do. Often one scripture can produce a multitude of truths. I acted on what I read and the results were phenomenal.

Prayer:

Lord, what we read today, aluminate in our minds what You would have us to do. Reading is great, understanding is wonderful, but putting Your words to practice is the greater blessing. In Your name Lord, reveal Your words to us today, Amen!
