Burdens

Matthew 1:28 ESV

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

In context, Jesus was talking about the burdens that had been placed on the Jewish people by their own religious leaders, but as Jesus does, His words always reach far beyond the immediate moment. The people going to Jesus would be released of the burden even if they still had to obey the law. The religious leaders were trying to keep the people from disobeying the main commandments but at the same time adding in their own take on the law and there by creating heavy burdens upon the common people.

For us, Jesus sees whatever we are going through, He offers this same similar help. He can see when we are struggling to stay pure before God. He sees when we are doing our best for us and our family but we are still not making it and He says come to me, I can and will help you. He sees when we are struggling in this life with worries, pressures, anxieties and stresses, so He says come to me. Don’t just assume that He will see and step in, ask Him, seek Him and listen to what He says to us.

Prayer:

Lord, we need You, every hour we need You! We seek Your face, we cast our burdens on You, we give our worries and anxieties to You. Help us, heal us, protect us, provide for our needs, Your will be done in us and through us Lord. In Your name we ask these things, Amen!
