Life in God’s Wisdom
James 3:13 NIV
“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”
This verse emphasizes that to merely claim to be wise, or having extensive knowledge, is insufficient. Genuine wisdom must be visible in daily conduct and the way we carry out our Christian experience. That means we show our wisdom through our words, actions and reactions. We show that our wisdom is not something that we just claim to have, it shows up in our lives in everything that we do, from the things that we claim and the decisions that we make. It is essential that our wisdom be shown through humility. The world’s wisdom is brash, our wisdom as Christians has is rooted in a recognition of one’s dependence on God and the willingness to serve others, setting aside one’s own agenda.
Prayer:
Lord, we ask for wisdom, knowledge and understanding today and every day. Your wisdom will show up in our relationship with You. It will show if we are grounded in You and Your words. This kind of wisdom comes with humility, and a willingness to serve others. It is not lofty, it is not high minded and it never lords over others, but it is pure as You are pure. We ask this in Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
