The Veil
2 Corinthians 3:15-18 ESV
“Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their (unbelievers) hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.”
When Moses would get into the presence of God, the glory of the Lord could be seen on Moses’s face when he came to speak to the people. The glory was so bright that the Israelites asked if Moses could put a veil over his face so that they could look at him when he gave instructions from the Lord. Paul gleans from these phenomena that the Israelites were dull of heart. He says that even today (in Paul’s time) when the old Testament prophecies are read that point to Jesus as the Messiah unbelievers still have a veil lifted so that they cannot see the truth, but the veil is of their own choosing. When we turn to Jesus, the veil is removed and not only do we see the glory of God as if for the first time, but we also see His glory in His words.
When I was a child, I did not understand all the meanings of the Bible, but when I became hungry for more of God, the Bible became illuminating. Now I see every day the glory of God in His words.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for coming into my heart and removing the veil of doubt and unbelief and bringing me to the conscious state of knowing You and seeing Your glory on every page of Your words, the Bible. Thank you Lord for lifting the veil that I had over my eyes. In Your name Lord Jesus I pray, Amen!
