As You Have Been Taught, So Teach

Luke 6:39-40 ESV

“He also told them a parable: ‘Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.’”

I Had a friend that became a Christian later in life, He was so enthralled with God that he began listening to every teaching that he could find on the TV and radio. Seeing that he was becoming a bit confused I counseled him to stop listening to every TV minister and radio minister that he found because they were causing the confusion. He was angry at first and thought that I was just trying to limit him in his quest and thirst for knowledge of God, which I was not. As he prayed and sought God’s words, he realized that it was true, he was becoming confused.

Can someone teach when they have not been taught? Can someone direct, when they are not spiritually intuitive themselves? To give advice, first obtain spiritual knowledge from God’s words, a good commentary and a good Bible dictionary. Seek understanding so that when we guide others, we will not stumble and make someone else, that is following us, to stumble. Training is required.

Prayer:

Lord, before I make decisions for myself, help me to seek Your guidance and possibly the guidance of a spiritually intuitive person. Before I give advice to someone, help me NOT to think more highly of myself than I should and seek wisdom from You before I give counsel. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
