The Whole Armor of God
Ephesians 6:13-14a
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth…”
The reason that we put on this spiritual armor is that we will be able to stand as the battle rages around us. We cannot always see the battle, but it is a raging warfare. We sense the battle; we feel the battle but still we are at peace in the battle, because we stand in the Lord in this battle fully arrayed with the armor of God to protect us in Him.
The first thing Paul tells us to put on is the belt of truth. The belt of truth signifies that we walk in the truth of the Gospel. We have the truth of God’s word in us, and we rekindle that truth within us every day. This symbolic belt represents being grounded in God’s Words, living with integrity, and having a firm understanding of biblical truth to protect against deception and enable steadfastness in spiritual battles.
The belt of truth protects against the devil’s schemes and deceptive tactics because of the words of God that reside in us. God’s truth guides us in making sound decisions, strengthening our resolve to do what is right, and discerning truth from falsehood.
Prayer:
Lord, this morning we stand, not in our own might and power but in Yours. We stand and we wrap around us the symbolic belt of truth. Your words are truth, and they are life. Your words enlighten and inform us. Your words give us wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discretion. Your Words are what sustains us, Your words will see us through every situation that we encounter. Thank You Lord Jesus, Amen!
