The Whole Armor of God

Ephesians 13-14b

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness…”

The breastplate of righteousness is a symbolic piece of armor, a spiritual protection that comes from God’s righteousness, which guards our hearts against sin, against the accusations of the enemy, and spiritual attacks, enabling us to live a holy and obedient life in Christ. Righteousness is a state of being in Christ, through which we are clothed in His perfect righteousness, protecting us from the destructive forces of the spiritual world and allowing us to stand against evil. Solomon wrote, “Above al else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” 

Prayer:

Lord, this morning we have on the belt of truth because we choose to live in the truth of Your words. Now we place on us symbolically the breastplate of righteousness because we choose to walk in Your righteousness, not our own. Your righteousness sustains us, Your righteousness guards the very core of our being, and our motives and motivations. We cannot face the enemy on our own righteousness, so we put on Your righteousness and holiness this morning. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
