The Whole Armor of God

Ephesians 6:13-15a

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

The shoes that we put on symbolically today is the readiness to go in the Gospel of peace. The enemy has used stress and anxiety to cripple people, the shoes of the Gospel of Peace puts us back where we belong in Jesus.

Roman soldier’s sandals had studs or spikes that provided a firm grip and stability on various terrains, allowing them to stand their ground and move forward without slipping. Much like their sandals, our shoes of the readiness Gospel of Peace gives us the ability to move out of situations that bring us stress and anxiety and bring us to a place that David described, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

Prayer:

Lord, lead us into peace today. We symbolic put on the shoes of the Gospel of Peace and we go out into the world. Stress and anxiety will come, but at those points we will rock back in our shoes and remember we are in the readiness to pursue peace. We reach out to others today lord to help them put on their shoes of the Gospel of Peace as well. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
