Hearing the Holy Spirit

John 14:26 ESV
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

To hear the Holy Spirit accurately, in the theme of this passage, we are to be taught by the Holy Spirit all the things of God and bring into remembrance all the things that Jesus taught us. In order to hear the Holy Spirit in our spirit we accurately have to learn the things of God. This can only happen by accurately and attentively reading God’s word and seek to understand our Father through the Word.

Some good listening skills would involve.

1. Seek to understand the speaker. The Holy Spirit, according to 1 Corinthians 2:10 says, “these things (the deep wisdom of God) God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.” To know the deep things of God we search the scriptures daily.

2. Focus on listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to us. Each of us are in different stages of our life, so hear Holy Spirit will reveal things to us about our lives and the paths that we are on individually.

3. The Holy Spirit is there to help us remember what we have read and to guide us in all truth. That inner small voice should be the voice of reason, common sense and practicality as well as our spiritual endeavors. That inner voice of the Holy Spirit will continually lead us in faith of the Father as He intervenes in our lives.

4. If the voice that we hear leads us in fear or worry, that is not the voice of the Holy Spirit. The voice that we hear of the Holy Spirit will always lead us to higher heights with God.

Prayer:

Lord, we don’t have to ask You to reveal Yourself to us daily, because daily You do just that. Most of the time if we are missing this information we are not listening to the Holy Spirit inside of us. What we are asking is that You would help us to listen more intently to You. In Your name Lords Jesus, Amen!
