The Gift that Keeps on Giving

John 17:2-3 ESV

“…You (Father) have given Me (Jesus) authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

The Father gives the Son to the persons with a willing and believing heart and the Son gives to those who truly receive God with their whole heart, eternal life.

Note how Jesus the Son describes eternal life; “And this is eternal life, that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” To those who Jesus gives eternal life, they (we) possess the ability to “know” God the Father and the Son.

This knowing is not just a head knowledge but a heart and spiritual knowledge. A deep abiding connection that ties us to God and the Trinity and the Trinity to us forever.

This knowing is not passive, it is not temporary, and it certainly is not automatic or mechanical. It is trusting, believing and engaging. It seeks out God on every level. This knowing God is an intimate bond, and that bond just gets stronger every day and continues to grow throughout eternal life.

Prayer:

Lord, we are so privileged and honored to “know” You! Day by day, week by week, month by month and year by year I pray that we see and understand You more deeply, more honestly. Open our eyes, hearts, minds and spirits to receive all that we can in this “knowing’ You and the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). I know this searching of our hearts for You will never end and we will never grasp everything, but we want to try and “know” You more each day, Amen!
