Seeking God With Our Whole Heart

Jeremiah 29:12-13 ESV
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

I watch people in life that at one time had a great relationship with God, but because of times and troubles, they have slipped out of fellowship with God. Then they wonder where God is in these times of trouble.

Paul addressing the men at Athens said, “…they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us…” (Acts 17:27)

God is not far, in fact He is standing at the door, waiting, knocking. Will we let Him in? In today’s passage God says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

Seeking God is not a quick quip, it is a destination, a journey. It should be pointed, direct, on purpose and purposeful.

People have said to me, “I tried religion, it didn’t work for me.” Well, they are right, trying religion will just get us disappointments and frustrations, but seeking God with our whole heart will get us the answers that we need and the life we want.

Think of having that attitude with a spouse, talking to them once in a while when we need something, honoring them when we have to, see where that gets you in a relationship with a person.

That is what many do with God, but do this instead; call on God, He will hear, and He does answer. Seek God with Your whole heart. Seek Him early and first. Seek Him when things are going well, seek Him when things are rotten.

This is the promise just before these two verses this morning and it is a promise to those who truly seek after God with our whole heart. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Prayer:
Father, we need You ever hour, sometimes we just don’t realize it. Sometimes we take You for granted. We know You are always there, and we know You are patient and are waiting on us. Teach us to lean on You, seek You with our whole heart, and know that You desire that kind of relationship with each and every one of us. In Your name Father God, Amen!
