True Worship

John 4:23-24 ESV
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

In the time of Jesus on this earth, He could see, as he does now, the hearts of all mankind. He knows those who are for Him, who believe and trust in Him completely, and He knows those who are just giving Him lip service. He said in Matthew 15:8, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me…” How hurtful that must have been for the Son of God to just receive words but no true actions with heart. It is like a well without water. When we know people are just giving us lip service how do we feel?

Jesus said that the hour is coming when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. Worshipping God in the Spirit is worshipping God with the total person, mind, soul, spirit, and body. In other words, we are all there, and all engaged in worshipping God. Not just speaking or singing and our thoughts are on what we will go and do next. We are giving God every part of us.

Worshiping God shows our inner value of Him and who He is to us. If we worship half-heartedly, our value of God is half-hearted. If we are fully engaged in worship, our value of God is immeasurable. Jesus also said, those who worship Him (God) must worship in spirit and truth. How do we worship in truth? Do we know God, the way He wants to be known? Are we worshipping Him because He is the ultimate truth and life? Are we truthful with ourselves or are we just putting on a pretense?

Worshipping God in truth shines a light on God, but the light reflects back on us. What is in our heart and mind while we worship Him? He deserves all of us, mind, soul, spirit, and body.

Prayer:
I worship You Almighty God, there is none like You. You are the Creator of all that is good. You have created an ever-increasing universe, yet You decide to live within my heart. I don’t deserve You on my own merit, but I do deserve You because of what Your Son did for me at Calvary. I give You my heart, I give You my soul, spirit and body. I belong to You. In Your name God of all creation, Amen!
