Nevertheless

Luke 5:4-5 ESV
“And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”’ And Simon answered, ‘Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word (Nevertheless) I will let down the nets.”’

Peter, for a moment, could only think about how hard they had worked all night. How frustrating it was to come home empty handed. Now, they had cleaned their nets, put their thoughts into, “maybe tomorrow it will be better.” Nevertheless, Peter felt something way down deep inside himself wanting to hear the Master out.

He probably doubted that they would catch anything, nevertheless, he was willing to obey the Master even if they did come up empty handed. Of course, Jesus never fails, but Peter didn’t know that. Jesus did not say, “if you will do what I ask, you will have a great reward,” instead He said, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

Jesus left it in Peter’s hands to trust and obey or just refuse and walk away. Nevertheless, Peter stretched himself and he and his fishing partners reaped a great reward.

How often do we look at things in the natural and say, “it looks impossible, nothing miraculous ever happens to me!” Sometimes we don’t even ask the Lord to do the impossible for us. Nevertheless, when Jesus is telling us down deep inside to believe, then we need to believe.

Prayer:
Lord, I do not ask for frivolous things, I ask You out of true desire and need. Do the miraculous for Your children, help them to stretch themselves and believe. In Your name Lord, Amen
