Comforted to Comfort
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 ESV
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
I had a friend that lost her husband to cancer. I performed their wedding ceremony and I led her husband to the Lord just hours before he passed. I checked in on her periodically with a phone call to encourage her, but she was so distraught she really was not comforted at all.
I finally told her, after almost a year had passed, that she needed to find someone else that was distraught and give them comfort, to help herself. It was not well received, but none-the-less true. God comforts us, so we can comfort others, the way He comforted us.
If you are hurting, allow God to comfort you and fill the void. Then you go find someone hurting and give them the same help you received from God. Believe me, it helps, it works.
Prayer:
Lord, every time You come along side of me and help me through tough times, teach me to pass that comfort along, and come along side someone else and help them through. That’s how we get through the pains of life!
