Groanings Too Deep for Words
Romans 8:26
“For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Paul reminds us that, if our life with Jesus is flowing in the right direction, we should be experiencing the prayers of God coming through us. Paul says these prayers come in the form of groans because they contain sentiments that are difficult to translate into human words.
Paul tells us that when we are weak and don’t know how to pray…we allow the Spirit to pray through us. There is no certain groan that we are trying to achieve, it is a prayer that we just allow our spirit to pray. Not to be confused with praying in the Spirit, where we speak in tongues as we pray, this groaning of the Spirit is are typically prayers desperation or of sorrow.
This type of prayer we do not speak words, we just allow the Spirit of God to pray through. The Holy Spirit is speaking directly to the Father, saying things we cannot find the words for. Sometimes our prayers can be repetitive begging, pleading, we do not have to do that.
The Father knows what we need and more often than not, our prayers should be changing us instead of thinking we are going to change God’s mind. Pray, believe, and thank God for His answers. In times where we do not know what to pray, allow the Spirit to pray.
Prayer:
Father, I have asked for specific things lately. I believe the Spirit has prayed most of those prayers. Thank you for hearing me, thank you for the Spirit who prays for me when I’m out of words.
