Moving On
Philippians 3:14-15 AMP
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
We all have things in the past that we would like to forget, some people want and need a fresh start. We have a God who can help with that. He is the God of second chances, and third, fourth, and fifth chances and so on… you get the idea. Forgiveness and fresh starts was His idea in the first place, He knew this life was going to be hard to navigate.
He has done everything possible to make the journey easier. The one thing needed for that? Trust and obedience. If we can do that, He guarantees success in this life, even if there are a few hiccups along the way.
Paul in this passage says; “forgetting what lies behind…” Forgetting is not our strong suit. We tend to remember what we should forget, and forget what we should remember.
But Paul had a few skeletons in his closet that he definitely wanted to move past. So, he said, “Forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on…” That is the best advice I have for this New Years Eve, Eve.
This last year had its share of challenges, maybe more for some than others. Leave the bad things in 2022 and press on to what God has for us in 2023. Not a New Years Resolution, but a New Beginning. Let God determine our goals, to “Win the [heavenly] prize…” Keeping our eyes on Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
Prayer:
Father, I want this to be my best year, accomplishing Your goals through me. Forgive me of my carelessness, teach me to forgive myself, and move on to accomplish the race that You have for me.
