Extreme Love
John 3:16 NKJV
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
“God so loved the world…” God did not wait for the world to turn to Him before He loved the world, that’s just who He is. “He gave His only begotten Son…” God’s love didn’t just feel for the fallen world. God did something about it, and He gave the most precious thing to Himself, His Son.
“Whoever believes in Him…” The world does not receive or benefit from this love until it believes in Jesus, the gift that the Father gave. Believing means much more than intellectual awareness or agreement. It means to trust in Him, rely on Him and to cling to Him.
“Should not perish…” God’s love actually saves man from eternal destruction. God looks at fallen humanity, and does not want it to perish. So in His love He extends the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. “Everlasting life.” This describes the duration of God’s love, forever love!
The love we receive from God’s will never change. He will never stop loving His people, even unto the furthest distance of eternity. But God loves everyone, all the time. Most go through life never realizing or sensing His extreme love. Christmas is another celebration of God’s love for mankind.
Prayer:
Father Your love is amazing, endless and timeless. Your love reaches the highest heavens and penetrates the lowest depths. Because of Your great love we have a way back to You, to live with You forever!
