Lord of Hosts

1 Samuel 1:11 ESV
“And she (Hannah) vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”

This is the story of childless Hannah in 1st Samuel, who wanted a son so badly and earnestly prayed that the Lord would grant her the desire of her heart.

The LORD of hosts occurs mostly in the Prophets, especially those speaking about the failure of Israel. It appears nearly 80 times in Jeremiah, 14 times in the two short chapters of Haggai, nearly 50 times in Zechariah, and 25 times in Malachi. Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts, is a name that emphasizes the power and might of our God. He rules over the vast multitudes of angels and armies of God.

In the Book of Joshua 5:13–15, Joshua encounters a “Captain of the Host of the Lord” in the early days of his campaigns in the Promised Land.

“Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” 1 Samuel 17:45 ESV

There is non more mighty or more victorious than the Lord of Hosts or the Captain of the Hosts.

Prayer:
Lord of Hosts, come to my rescue, stand by my side. With You by my side, non can prevail against me.
