Sing a New Song

Psalms 98:1 ESV
“Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His Holy arm have worked salvation for Him.”

To be truthful, I like a lot of the choruses and hymns that actually say meaningful words of praise. It’s not that all the new choruses and songs do not say meaningful words but I have become discontent with some of the newer choruses and songs. Some highlight the music and quite a few are written to stir response from the audience.

Now I know what most worship leaders and singers would say at this point, “have you seen audiences on Sunday morning?” Yes I know, many come in lifeless and unenthused. Worship should actually begin when we are getting ready to go to church and on the way to church. Songs and choruses should be written to worship and praise God, not insight the audience.

The Psalmist says, “…sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things!” One, “sing to the Lord,” is the best start in singing and writing worship music, not to impress the audience.

Two, “sing to the Lord a new song,” means, just sing what comes to your heart. Have you ever just made up songs in your worship? I sure do, songs and words that come from the heart are the best kind.

Third, the Psalmist says that God has done “marvelous things.” Those are the things we should sing about during the praise portion of praise and worship. Marvelous works deserves marvelous praise. Singing meaningful songs to the Lord that really expresses how we feel about our great God.

Prayer:
Lord, I lift Your name on high, for You alone are worthy of my undying devotion and love. You are the audience Father, You are the one I desire to sing songs of praise and worship to.
