Knowing the Pitfalls

Proverbs 6:23 ESV
“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of lifeā€¦”

God’s commandments illuminates the pitfalls in life. By His commandments we know what to do and what not to do. The first four commandments teach us how to love God. The last six commandments teach us how to deal with and how to love others.

All the teachings of the Bible show us how to be children of God, how to walk with God, how to treat others. Things to do, things not to do and how God’s love brings us home.

One seminary student wrote to his professor, if I had to sum up the Bible in ten words or less, it would be “God built it. We broke it. Jesus fixed it.”

There are thousands of teachings, and subject matters in the Bible. Mostly we do not like to be corrected, reproved, disciplined or told what to do. How we make it through this life determines how we will do in the next life, eternal life.

This passage is similar to Psalms 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God’s got the lights on, we can choose to walk in the light or in the darkness.

It starts with just reading His words to understand. If you are not used to reading much, start in John, then the Gospels, then the writings of Paul. Find an easy read version. I often use the English Standard Version, very easy read.

Prayer:
Father, Your Words illuminate my walk, I can see the pitfalls and the dangers. The right roads and the wrong roads and all the roads that lead to You.
