Psalms 40:1-3 ESV

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”

David had a lot of things against him. As a boy he was discounted by his family but God raised him up to be a king. He was told what he could not accomplish by many at a young age, but God gave him the ability to take down a lion, a bear, and ultimately a giant that was twice his height.

Following the Lord into service, Saul the king became jealous of David and tried to kill him, Saul searched for years to kill David, but God had big plans for David. David was a good soldier, a good fighting man and he was to be the King.

David had a lot of setbacks and became depressed but he had a heart after God and God kept David in the palm of his hand. David became the greatest king in Israel. Still today after 3000 years, David is still considered the greatest king of Israel.

David was at first a troubled youth, a victim of jealousy for years. He was mocked by his family, he suffered with lust, depression and anger, yet he was considered a “man after God’s own heart.” Just imagine what God can do through you and me.

Prayer:
Father, I have faults and failures, but show me what You can do through me as you did with David. Teach me to be a man after Your own heart!
