Something New

Luke 6:20 ESV

“And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”

As Jesus began His ministry, He chose twelve men to teach, to train and to pour Himself into them. They were young, some impetuous, some bold, some zealous. The twelve would see, hear, sense and comprehend the best that they could from Jesus, except Judas who was there to betray Jesus, but Jesus knew that from the beginning. The rest of the eleven would gather in what they could, the Holy Spirit brought into remembrance the rest including the meaning why Jesus did what He did and said what He said. John records a moment when Jesus began a great teaching, ”And He (Jesus) lifted up His eyes on His disciples.” This was the beginning of a new era, a new way of life. Jesus was there to bring life, hope, healing, restoration and inner peace. Jesus saw a raw group of guys, but He also saw their potential. In this great teaching Jesus addressed something that these twelve had never heard before, to be poor in spirit or humble and empty before God, they will receive the Kingdom of God in them at this moment, not some time afar off. The world says that the rich are blessed, Jesus said that those who are empty, perhaps broken will be blessed with something much more valuable than riches, they would receive the Kingdom of God.

We too have received this Kingdom when we came to Jesus broken, empty, humble and needing a Savior. This Kingdom most do not realize what they are a part of, but it is the greatest reality that we will ever know, here on earth and one day in heaven with Jesus. Jesus has lifted up His eyes on us this morning, and imparted a love and a reality unimaginable, but it is true.

Prayer:

Lord, we are so blessed in You. You have gazed on us this morning to give us eternal life and all the blessings of the Kingdom. We receive from You all that You have for us today Lord in Your Kingdom. Thank You King Jesus, Amen!
