On the Road to Emmaus

Luke 24:17, 26-27 ESV

“And He said to them, “What is this conversation that you are holding with each other as you walk? And He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

Make no mistake, this scene on the day of Jesus’s resurrection is for comfort as much as it is for correction and revelation. As these men were on a seven-mile journey home, they were dejected, saddened, and disheartened. They had come to believe that Jesus was the one who would free the nation from the Roman rule and that He would sit on David’s throne. That will come, but not at this time.

As Jesus caught up to them, He asked them why they looked so sad. As they explained to Jesus all that had happened, Jesus would take the opportunity to correct their thinking. What He gave them was a new revelation, a new hope, a new future. It was such a revelation that when the two men sat and talked with one another after Jesus vanished, they realized who Jesus really was, His purpose, His plan and the plan for all mankind. The feeling was so intense they said to one another, “Did not our hearts burn within us as He talked with us along the road.”

Allow Jesus to comfort you, correct you, and give you a new revelation  today.

Prayer:

Lord, I feel the sense of excitement that these two men had that day that You revealed Yourself to them. I’m amazed that You took the time to walk with these men seven miles away from Jerusalem on the day that You rose from the grave. I also know that You will seek us out as well to set us on the right path. You are such a loving, caring Savior. I stand in awe of You my Lord, Amen!
