As Far as It Depends On US

Romans 12:18 ESV

“If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

Peace is not always simple, and it is not always in our control, but we have a meaningful part to play. Take responsibility for the atmosphere we create around us. We cannot control every situation, but we can control our responses, our tone, our willingness to listen, and our openness to reconciliation. Peace begins with the choices we make daily. Peace is possible if we are a willing participant. Peace is established when we decide not to react harshly or act hastily. Peace can be achieved if we express humility and forgiveness. “As far as it depends on you…” means that we do our part to express peace and trust God with the rest. We are not responsible for others’ choices—only our own faithfulness to God.

Prayer:

Lord, lead me in this matter. Instead of demanding my own way, teach me to be pliable, peaceable and kind. In Your name, Prince of Peace, I seek You, amen.
