Watchful in Prayer

Colossians 4:2 ESV

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”

This means to persevere in prayer, not giving up even when it’s difficult or the answers don’t come immediately. It implies a constant and steady commitment to prayer as a regular part of life. It is a trap of the enemy that says to us, “God’s going to do what He wants to anyway, why should you pray?” God listens to us, He sees our hearts, and He answers in a way that is best for us. Keep communicating with Jesus, keep listening to His responses. If it doesn’t happen when you want or how you want, keep praying. God is moving, even though it may not be happening as fast as we want it too. Paul also says to be alert, vigilant, and spiritually awake during prayer. It involves being mindful of your thoughts, staying focused, and being aware of God’s guidance. “With thanksgiving: This means to approach prayer with a grateful heart, whether you are asking for things or reflecting on God’s actions. It is a reminder to offer thanks to God regardless of your circumstances. Every communication with God needs to begin and end with thankfulness.

Prayer:

Lord, make my heart vigilant in prayer. Help me to be in constant contact with You throughout the day and evening. Give me ears to hear Your voice and Your Spirit speaking to me in Your words. Keep my heart open and receptive to the leading of the Spirit. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
