What Jesus Did at Calvary

Revelations 5b-6 ESV

“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood”: Many of the translations say, “loved us,” and this is important because with the statement “…and freed us from our sins by His blood…”it looks back to what Jesus did in the past. He loved us so much that He suffered at the hands of men and He bled and died for us on the cross so that we could come into a right relationship with the Holy God. There is no greater love than that. Jesus wanted you and I personally to have a relationship as Father and son or Father and daughter, so He paid for it with His life. With this newness of life, He made us part of His kingdom, one day we will rule with Him, but for now we are a part of His royal kingdom. He also made us “priests to His God and Father…” to offer spiritual sacrifices to God and bring God glory. To lead others to God on behalf of our Savior.

John concludes this thought with, “to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” Jesus is the glory of God and He has brought back the dominion that was lost at Adam, but further He has dominion over all things in heaven and on earth and under the earth. He has power and dominion over everything, to which we say, AMEN (let it be so).

Prayer:

Lord, You loved us with a great love, a love that we really can’t even fathom, it was so pure and wonderful. Thank You for loving us so much that You were willing to suffer and die for us to bring us back in right relationship with a Holy God our Father. If it wasn’t enough, we have become part of Your kingdom and dominion. You made us all priests who believe in You and trust in You. I pray that we can live up to Your love, expectations, and become the priests that You want us to be. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
